María José Crespo
Tijuana via Rotterdam
María José Crespo completed her BA in Fine Art at the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California in Tijuana and her MA in Fine Art at Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam. Her current research looks into how the porous space between territory, language, limits, and the body can be understood by extending their relations as gestures. By questioning how she inhabits certain boundaries as a woman, she is interested in studying what remains – the glimpses and traces that administrative powers leave behind in undefined territories. She has recently been awarded the acquisition award at the XXIII Bienal Plástica de Baja California and has received grants from FONCA and the Jumex Foundation.
